Most dogs are not really aggressive, they are misunderstood due to improper handling/training by the owner. Dogs do not speak English so do not understand what you want until you show him what it is you expect of him. Time, commitment, and consistency, is the key to having a well adjusted pet that you and everyone around you can enjoy.
If you are seeing
warning signs such as growling, hackles up, posturing, timidity,
you need help. Regardless of size,
including the very small ones, your dog should not be aggressive. I can help you learn how to read the signs your dog is giving, to stop any aggression, and to make you a calm assertive pack leader.
Aggression can be caused
by any number of reasons. Before an evaluation it is best to take
your dog to the Vet and have a complete check-up with a thyroid
panel, blood work, urinalysis, etc. to rule out anything physically
wrong such as chronic pain, injury, infections, thyroid imbalance,
neurological disease, sight problems, hearing, hormone imbalance,
etc. A check for Lyme disease would also be a good idea. They have found dogs tested positive for Lyme have aggression and behavioral issues.
Aggression can also be caused from bad genetics due to
poor breeding practices. Please do NOT purchase puppies
or dogs from pet shops or back yard breeders. Don't breed and/or buy while those in rescue die! Please spay
and neuter all pets and set a good example for your children.
Help lower the population in the shelters and humane societies. So many good animals die every day because of irresponsible people, don't be one of them.
Aggression is very complex with at least a dozen
different reasons as to why it occurs, but the main reasons are:
- Territorial aggression
defined as defense of some resource or possession.
- Dominance aggression
a normal genetic based attempt at getting or maintaining social
status.
- Pain aggression - caused
by being in pain or anticipation of pain. Pain induced aggression
often leads to redirected aggression which can be towards a
subordinate on the social scale and in fact, rarely, towards
the dog or person responsible for the pain.
- Fear aggression - involves
a learning or lack of it such as incomplete or improper socialization.
Aggression issues
need to be taken care of immediately before its too late.
If you are having a problem,
DON'T WAIT, no problem is unsolvable.
I can show you how to be a "Dog Whisperer" with
your own dog. No more yelling or running after your dog.
When it comes to aggression you need to be calm and quiet.
